OPENING THE HEART WORKSHOP NOTES

OPENING THE HEART WORKSHOP NOTES

Ken Mellor

These notes are handed out at a meditation and healing workshop designed to release love into many aspects of life. They are composed of the meditations that are practised during the workshop. Many people have found each of them valuable tools for feeling love for themselves, learning to release love in their relationships with others, promoting healing and accessing the Love that is Life Itself.

MEDITATIONS

Meditation 1
Sit upright and concentrate on grounding, by paying attention to the contact of your body with what is supporting you. After a short time, while continuing to do this, centre in your heart. Do this for a long time.

Continue with the previous step. Place your hands in the Love Heart Mudra. To do this, you hold your hands, with the palms together and your fingers extended, at mid-chest height, in the"Christian prayer position". After doing this for an extended time, notice the differences that occur between this approach and the first step. What is happening in your heart?

Meditation 2
Do the second step of the first meditation, with the Love Heart Mudra. Repeat the Mantra,Kleeng Klishnaaya Namah.

Meditation 3
Sitting upright, concentrate on grounding and centre in your physical heart. Place your hands in the Love/Heart Mudra.

Repeat the Mantra I AM LOVE. The Mantra is in your heart, activating you to Divine Love. The experience builds and builds more and more strongly as you do this. Meditate that you are an infinite source of Love - see yourself as an infinite light (perhaps soft pink) shining out in all directions; hear yourself as wonderful mellow sounds lovingly broadcasting to infinity in all directions; feel yourself as soft, warm, enfolding love flowing from your heart to everyone and everything in the whole Cosmos; taste yourself as the most delightful flavour of love you can imagine that is spreading to everyone; and meditate that you are emanating a perfect, wondrous fragrance, sweet and delightful, a pleasure to all as it surrounds them in its loving embrace.

Meditation 4
Repeat the last meditation.

Now in the midst of the Infinite Love that you are experiencing, turn your attention to yourself. To every aspect of you that occurs to you, no matter what it is, say, "I love you." Imagine that what you are considering is completely saturated with Divine Love and that everything that needs to be confirmed is confirmed, everything that needs to be healed or resolved is healed or resolved, everything that needs to be dissolved or released is dissolved or released. The perfect enfolding, enlivening, enlightening process is occurring with everything you respond to in this way. Continue the expression of love at least until the aspect on which you are focussing responds with, "I love you too".

Between each aspect that you consider in this way, return to your repetition of the Mantra I AM LOVE.

Meditation 5
Do Meditation 4 and this time consider any aspect of your life or the world around you. As you do, again use "I love you" and the associated meditation. The whole world can been folded, enlivened and enlightened.

Meditation 7
Sitting upright, concentrate on grounding and centre in your physical heart. Place your hands in the Love/Heart Mudra.

Repeat the Mantra I AM LOVE. The Mantra is in your heart, activating you to Divine Love.

Meditate that there are three centres of Love active at the same time: one in your heart, one in your head, and one above your head (perhaps at a great height). These centres may expand as you meditate on them. You meditate on their simultaneous presence.

After some time you meditate that the three centres are connected and communicating with each other through a flow or stream of Love.

A figure appears in the top centre - Perfected Being. This is your "I AM" Presence, your Oversoul, your Higher Self, the God in you, your Perfected Masterhood. It is there, radiating its perfection in all directions, feeding Light, Life and Love to you in your body. You centre in your heart and pour up Love, Adoration, Dedication, and Rapturous Bliss to this Aspect of You. As you do, you will be flooded with an intensification of what you are pouring upwards.

Continue with the previous step and you will reach a point of purification and saturation with Love, Light and Life at which you will be drawn into Itself, by the Being that you are in your Perfection. Its Love draws you into Itself. Allow yourself to rise up and find your Ultimate Fulfilment.

Meditation 8
Meditate that you are in the Infinite Loving Presence of God and that you are both completely enfolded in Unconditional Love and are completely revealed to yourself. You have a choice to face what you witness in yourself and thereby become increasingly purified, enlightened and awakened, or to turn away in some way. Practise facing whatever you witness, knowing that the Infinite Love that enfolds you will Fulfil everything and that your experience will help you to realise everything that you need to realise, no matter how challenging this may be initially. Also, know that you can call on the help of God to face completely what is revealed in His/Her Loving Presence.

Meditation 9
Lie on your back with your arms beside your, palms facing up and spread away from your body. Have your feet apart too. You form the shape of a star. As you lie there, pay attention to the contact of your body with what is supporting you and throughout the meditation keep a generalised awareness of this contact.

Centre in your heart. Pay attention to your physical heart. Look at it, listen to it, feel it, taste or smell it, or talk about it to yourself. The more attention you give to your heart, the more you are likely to move into it.

Concentrate your awareness, in a relaxed manner, on the your feet, hands and head. You keep your awareness on these five points simultaneously. Gradually you are likely to find that the experience you have of each becomes similar and then the same. Also you are likely to find that adjustments are made in the rest of your system. All five points become linked through your body to one another. The central point of that linkage is your heart.

As you lie there, your hands, feet and head are balanced and linked through your heart and you become a star, heart centred in your intensity, shining your balance and light out in all directions. You may dissolve into the Vastness, become One in the stars, transcend space and time.

(Note: you can do this meditation more gradually in several ways. For example, you can start with both feet, then add both hands, then include your head. In this way you would work up to the point of having all five points in your awareness at the same time, rather than beginning with that step.)

PRACTICAL PROGRAM

There are many things that you can do on a daily basis to encourage your heart to open with love. They all involve acting in ways that express love.

  • use words like "love", "care", "like" etc. as often as possible
  • say, "I love you" to at least x people per day, or at least x times a day, you choose how many "x" is
  • do things for others that you have not been asked to do, do it for the joy of doing it, not in expectation of it being noticed or returned
  • fantasise love at every opportunity, remember loving experiences list the best experiences you have had, in particular note the fragrances that were associated with them; these can be used to trigger the experience again
  • keep your heart in your awareness as often as you can
  • change the environment - surround yourself with loving colours, sounds, textures, tastes and smells.

Remember that the more often you do these things the stronger their momentum will be in your life. The stronger this momentum becomes the easier it will be to maintain your loving orientation.

  • tolerance and discrimination
