Commonground

Commonground BuildingsCommonground, Yellow Box Road, Seymour (See below for details of how to get there.)

Commongound is a cooperative that was started in the early 1980s by people interested in fostering socially aware policies, procedures and programs in the community at large. Its ethos is fundamentally oriented towards creating a just, egalitarian and peaceful world. The workshop venue is a wonderfully constructed reflection of the commune's goals.

The local kangaroos are always in evidence and a feature for city dweller and those from overseas who have not seen them "in the wild" before. The venue is set in a typical Australian bush setting, where you will be able to recharge yourself on the extraordinary power and tranquility of the place.

Biame Network has conducted its Seymour workshops there since 1998 and we relish the opportunity to keep doing this. Workshoppers for years have loved the ambience of the buildings, the bush setting and the care and attention offered by the Commonground staff. There is a lovely atmosphere and a sense of tender connection between us all. If you have been there before, they will remember your name and, in all likelihood, your dietary preferences. If this is your first time, expect a very warm welcome.

Via the Hume freeway, the trip takes about one hour from the northern suburbs of Melbourne and, via City Link and with a good run, only about one and a quarter hours from just south of the city. Good, affordable transport by train is also available.

FOOTNOTE ABOUT FIRES: Commonground is well prepared should a fire occur. Also, if something threatens, they have a well worked out fire plan designed as far as possible to ensure everyone's safety. The major risk from fires is during the Summer months from January to March.
